2009 Cascade Cycling Classic coverage for Western Communications
Cascade Cycling Classic 2009 coverage for the Bend Bulletin. Coverage includes a live Twitter feed tied to tweets regarding 'Cascade Cycling Classic', and a photo gallery with user submitted photos. Coverage also features all Bulletin free and E-Edition articles.
'Frequency' music blog for Western Communications
Wordpress MU 2.7 (enterprise install), powered web log featuring news and features for the Bend, Oregon music scene. Custom programming includes dynamic template sharing with main Bend Bulletin website, including template caching. Blog is optimized for search engine optimization and social network promotion. Tools for social networking include Twitter and Flickr integration. Blog posts Twitter automatically; Twitter users can reply back to the blog where their reply tweets become blog comments. The Flickr photo enables readers to submit their own concert photos from their own Flickr account.
Joomla Fleet for Western Communications
A fleet of Joomla sites built over the course of eight months with a similar code base but customized to their market. Each website features custom functionality built onto the Joomla CMS 1.0 platform using custom programmed modules and components in-house. Outside components and modules were also used to build out site functions, but customized to fit business needs of each publication. Most sites in the fleet integrate closely with outside vendors such as MyCapture, Google custom search, Zacks Stock market data. Two sites are classifieds specific and use a perl script from DTI print database to insert data and images on a semi-daily basis.
Fiddlehead Landscapes, Sustainable Landscape Design & Installation
Website built in Joomla 1.5 content management system. Includes custom photo gallery and stresses easy content manipulation by client. Site built as a team with outside designer providing and Adobe Illustrator composition, copywriting by outside writer, outside photographer, and programming done by myself. Site built for easy usability, load speed, and ultimately generate sales leads for Fiddlehead Landscapes.
Jeld-Wen Tradition feature portal, Bend Bulletin
Special section built within sports section of the Bend Bulletin website. Features player profiles, with an outside MySQL database feeding player biographies. Top 5 Leaderboard updated dynamically via a PHP scraper to pull in live scores. Portal incorporates video, Tradition articles, as well as player profiles and Tradition updates.
Bend Bulletin website redesign
Site completely redesigned, reskinned, and much underlying functional code rewritten. Design performed by in-house designer with art direction provided by myself and New Media Director. Complete site reworked in six months including design (designer) and code (myself). New features include a ruby on rails commenting engine (built by contractor), wide design format, automated CSS compression, and a load time of 4-7 seconds per page (including all ads). Outside resources integrated with main proprietary Saxotech code are PHP, Ruby on Rails, Perl, and two AJAX libraries.
2007 Pole Pedal Paddle Coverage, Bend Bulletin
Special sports section for the Pole Pedal Paddle. Designed, coded section and assisted with shooting video. Worked with race results vendor and other web developer to get event results posted same day as race. Section also features video, audio slideshow produced by Bulletin photographer and web producer, and all PPP Bulletin coverage. Received Honorable Mention from the Society of Professional Journalists for this project for 2007 year.
2007 Golf Guide, Bend Bulletin
Golf directory section with interactive Google map by region and course type. All courses feature video profiles with local golf professionals (shot by in-house videographers), Google interactive driving map, course stats, and ability to harness code to embed video on other websites to increase viral marketing exposure.
Restaurant Guide, Bend Bulletin
Guide features a comprehensive list of restaurants in Central Oregon. Viewer has ability to find restaurant by cuisine, location, and other factors as well as rate local restaurants by select criteria. Guide also features weekly restaurant reviews from the Bulletin, and local restaurant news. Designed and coded guide along with another developer.
2006 Election Coverage, Bend Bulletin
Designed and coded special 2006 Election Coverage section along with another in-house web developer. Responsible for layout, functionality, and working with other developer to setup database for instant election results.
American Shipbuilding Association
Managed project from discovery to flipping DNS servers for launch. Developed site strategy, architecture, and creative brief with a bid put out for two designs. Managed technical details, content loading, Photoshop production, and directed website coder. On-time and on-budget with an excited client at the end of the day.
Arizona Coalition for Migrant Rights
Designed, coded, and created website, LAMP architecture. Website components include interactivity with Get Active software, ListServ, and a database driven calendar and guide of Immigrant Rights organizations. Received assistance on database work with colleague.
Center for Community Change "Building the Power of Many" fundraising sub-site
Website created for fundraising event. Designed and coded site. Use of CSS for site layout, using tables when necessary. Page customization using PHP. Used Get Active donation module for payment shopping cart. Supported by Get Active e-mail marketing.
Fair Immigration Reform Movement
CCC's website concerning immigration. Site designed by outside designer. Website was over-coded and has since been streamlined. Responsible for new content areas and general maintenance of the site.
Fair Immigration “We Are Marie” sub-site
Sub-site for a campaign to keep a college age woman for being deported. Site designed by outside designer with creative direction from myself. Components include Weblog, Get Active advocacy, and deep background on Marie.
Actions Speak Louder
Designed and coded website, extensive use of PHP and CSS. Site was created to help CCC put a message out they were concerned about the FY'2006 Federal budget. Components include Weblog, Get Active advocacy, and deep background on the Federal Budget.
